MyPoints: An Overview

Jan 17, 2024 By Susan Kelly

The website's administration panel has a clean and simple user interface, making it simple to use and user-friendly overall. It specifies how many points you will get for completing a survey and offers a precise estimate of the amount of time it will take you to do so. According to Angela Valley, if a survey has a star next to its name, it almost always indicates that it will end soon.

Because the website's primary function is that of an aggregator, there needs to be a connection between the dashboard and the surveys. For instance, it wasn't always apparent whether I was participating in a survey or a "pre-survey" that is utilized for the sake of qualifying. When I began to respond to the questions, I would abruptly get a notice informing me that the partner site had not located a survey I was eligible for. I was permitted to continue completing questions, many identical to those asked before, until I came across a survey tailored to my preferences.

Success Rate

I attempted 75 surveys on MyPoints, but only seven were eligible for me to complete. The research found that the survey site with the lowest success rate. The particular demographic that the surveyor aimed to poll will decide whether or not a user fits the criteria for qualification. Regarding myself, I am a single lady in her 20s living in San Francisco. MyPoints also send out more invites than a survey needs; therefore, a user with the appropriate background might be disqualified from participating because the maximum for a certain demographic has been reached.

I got 22 quick disqualifications, which meant that whenever I clicked on a survey, I was instantly sent to the page with my personal information. After entering fundamental profile information like my age and ZIP code, I experienced an increased number of occasions in which I was excluded. Even though I had answered all of the accessible profile questions, I continued to get alerts that I had been disqualified. After being asked to write the word "Purple," I was eliminated from consideration in one of the competitions. I still need clarification about the rationale behind that excluding criterion.

The disqualifications do not go unpunished; they result in the following: You will be awarded five points for each of the day's first five surveys in which you are disqualified from participating. However, 25 participation points a day is not worth the pain that comes with them.

The Payoff

I could rack up 758 points on MyPoints after devoting roughly an hour each day for five days. According to Valley, "members may redeem for as low as 700 points for a $5 gift card." Although the company's website does not specify the specifics of point values in any way, Valley claims that this information is available.

However, to get a payment through PayPal of $25, you will need to have a minimum of 3,970 points in your account. That implies the value of each point is only slightly more than a half-cent. Based on this information, I established a mean of one dollar and one penny per hour minus the points received for responding to the profile questions. Your rate/hour might differ from mine, and as result, you will need to determine whether or not that is most productive use of time.

On a United MileagePlus account, points may be exchanged for travel miles to be used on a future flight. You may also redeem points for gift cards, albeit the point values associated with each card will differ. For instance, I was able to purchase a $3 eBay gift card for 480 points (which is around the same value per point as the PayPal cash option), and I was able to purchase a $5 Barnes & Noble gift card for 700 points (which is a somewhat better bargain).

The Verdict

The greatest way to gain money is to refrain from participating in paid internet surveys. You could sit in front of a computer for a long time yet still make enough money for a burger. The task is simple; you might do these surveys while watching television.

MyPoints may be a better option for you to go with if you decide to give survey-taking a try because of the likelihood that you will be disqualified from participating. It is recommended that you create a second email account to prevent filling up your primary inbox, take pauses to give your eyes a rest, and install anti-malware software on your computer. This recommendation is valid regardless of the website that you use.
